BEACH AND BUSH WALKS
NATIONAL PARK PERMIT PASS
If you are a guest or a visitor at Depot Beach Cottages you do not need a National Park permit for parking if you are on the property or on the road outside the property. You WILL need a pass if you park at the Depot Beach parking and picnic area on the beach or the Lake Road parking area, and Pebbly Beach. A permit can be purchased from the dispensing machine at the top of Lovell's Pass on Mt Agony Road, 2 km west of the Depot Beach turnoff. The cost of the "daily entry fee" is $8.00 per car.
A fantastic network of walking tracks in the Depot Beach area lead to some amazing walks and bike rides. Some of the more popular walks include the Depot Beach Rainforest Walk, The Discovery Trail, Durras Lake, Durras Mountain and the Depot Beach to Calm Corner and Durras Beach via Durras Lake.

- DURRAS MOUNTAIN
- 4 hours return, medium difficulty with very steep sections. Go to Pebbly Beach, the next beach to the north of Depot Beach. Follow the northern track till you reach the Durras Mountain sign. Take the indicated track left. This track is an old road and zig-zags up the mountain for a while then goes up a steep ridge. This is a long steep ascent. Near the top you will come to a gate and soon after this a T-intersection with another road. Turn right and this will lead you onto the main ridge across the top of the mountain. You will see the remains of an old water storage tank on the right. Continue along the road and up a short hill to the top of the mountain where there is a trig point, a large water storage tank and a large grassy area from which there are stunning views up and down the coast. This is a great spot for a picnic. Return the way you came. read more
- DURRAS LAKE WALK
- 4 hours return , easy - medium. The track starts at a small car park on Mt. Agony Rd about 3 kms from the highway. There is a small stand of Sydney blue gums near the beginning of the track, which soon leads to the shore of Durras Lake. The track stays close to the shore of the Lake except for one stretch that goes over a small hill to bypass a long peninsula into the Lake. There are views of the Lake with its abundance of bird life. Towards the end, the track joins The Discovery Trail. You can walk this trail as well before returning the same way. Alternatively you can start the walk at the car park at the beginning of the Discovery Trail. read more
- BURRAWANG WALK (Depot Beach to Calm Corner)
- From the cottages walk up the hill to the top of Carr Street. Follow the sign to North Durras Beach. You will walk up a gentle hill then follow a ridge along Point Upright then start to go down to the beach. The last section is reasonably steep but has stairs. It is well worth the effort as this sheltered beach is a paradise of white sand, clear turquoise water and plenty of shade. The snorkeling is great and it is ideal for little ones. You can continue your walk along the beach past Durras Lake to Mill Point.
